Test Results...

We called last night at about 1:00 am to see if they had results back from the CBC and blood gas. CBC was not back, but his CO2 was 48, which is good. Then we called this morning to get the rest of the results and found that his WBC (white blood cell count) was very low at 5,000 it was previously 18,000. They said a drop like this indicates an infection that is preventing him from building more white blood cells. So they started him on antibiotics and will wait to see what the cultures grow in a couple of days. Though we definitely don't want him to have an infection, we now know why he has not been himself. We will see how today goes.
